About Me
My name is Gill, I was born and raised in Scotland, UK.
I have always had an interest in Art, mainly drawing in my younger years. I loved Art at school, so much so that my school reports always said that if I spent the same time paying attention in class as I did doodling on my books I would go far!
I left school with a handfull of 'O'Grades including Art and Higher Art but did not pursue this any further at this stage, at 17 I was more interested in making money and socialising than going to Art College and to be honest, I don't regret that decision.
From leaving school in 1987 I went to work in the Electronics Industry and remained there until 2002 when I was made redundant from a job I had been in long term. This forced me to take a look at where I wanted to go so I decided I no longer wanted to wrok in Production so I then went to work ias an Office Administrator. I have worked in several offices over the years, mainly in Technical or Commercial Industries.
In most jobs I was lucky enough to push my design skills to management and take on some of the companies design and promotional work, designing and creating company logo's, brochures, product information sheets and providing artwork for use in exhibitions.
I am self taught on all of the design software packages and have refined these skills over the years, learning new software and keeping up to date with the latest releases. I continued to work in Administration up to October 2009 where I left my job to live and work abroad. Since October 2009 we have been living in, travelling through and experiencing different regions of France, we intend to remain in France until we re-locate permanently to Malta.
My partner Rob is a self-employed professional and I am lucky in the sense that I do not have to work on someone elses clock and he gives me the freedom to concentrate on what I want to do with my time so I am now free to concentrate on my Design and Illustration and can work freelance as and when I want to.
I have also done a lot of 'real' artwork over the years, drawing, painting and full wall murals. This is something I will continue with once I am settled in Malta and have a full range of materials available again. I am particularly interested in continuing with creating artwork on canvas, mainly abstract, I hope to find inspiration for this in Malta and set myself up to be able to sell my work.
